On Friday April 10, 2026, Manchester High School held its fourth-fifth annual Senior VS Faculty basketball game. This event is held at Manchester High School during what would typically be the last block of the day, but because this is a big deal at Manchester most of the students go to watch the game so we have a study hall period during this time. The game itself was exhilarating, and the students almost beat the faculty. This was the faculty’s 23 consecutive win against the seniors though; they really do come out to play.
When interviewing Mrs.Wilson about her role in the game, I asked her several questions about how the game made her feel. “It was very bitter sweet to win the game. Of course, it’s fun to win but the past couple of years the seniors have been putting in a lot of effort to try and beat us,” Wilson said. She also explained that she has been teaching some of the kids who played in the game the whole time that they’ve been in high school and it was fun to compete with them.
I also interviewed Delaney Walker and asked her several questions not only about the game but about leaving Manchester and Graduation. “I had a lot of fun at the game and thought that it was an amazing experience, plus I got to score,” Walker said. “I was a little bit upset about the loss but all in all it was a fun experience that I’m just glad I got to participate in.”
Finding joy in a loss is important just as much as being happy about winning is. When we were discussing how she was going to be graduating in a few short weeks, she had a few words to say, “Though the seniors lost they still seemed to have had a lot of fun in this game. Sometimes looking for the bright side in things isn’t so bad,” Walker stated.
This basketball game is a big deal at MHS and is overall very fun and a fun way to let our seniors leave with a few extra unique memories. I find it unique that the teachers and students both don’t seem to care as much about the win as they do getting to play. The final score of the game was 38-31. Better luck next year seniors!
