Manchester offers a wide variety of clubs for high-achieving students, ranging from honors societies to specific skill clubs. National Beta Club is a prominent extracurricular that highlights academic excellency, while also teaching students how to be leaders and give service. At Manchester, Mrs. Underwood runs it, alongside Ms. Lane and Ms. Daniels, in the auditorium once a month.
National Beta Club was founded in 1934, marking over 90 years of the club’s activity. It strives to produce leadership in students while also awarding them for excellent work in school. Beta Club is also the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America. They work to lead through service towards the community.
“Committed to recognizing high academic achievement, rewarding worthy character, fostering leadership skills, and encouraging service to others, Beta impacts the lives of students in significant ways. Founded in 1934 by John W. Harris, Ed., National Beta has worked with millions of students in grades 4-12,” NationalBeta informed.
At Manchester, students from tenth to twelfth grade are able to join Beta Club as long as they have a 3.0 gpa. I interviewed members Morgan Gibson, and Destiny Veasna to hear what they think about the club and its activities.
Regarding why you should join Beta Club, Morgan Gibson had the following to say, “I would recommend joining Beta Club because it’s a good way to learn leadership skills and put service back into your community, a vital lesson to high schoolers.”
Leadership is a key skill that’s pushed for high school students to learn. It also helps student college applications, as they would like to see leadership positions within your school. Based on Gibson’s comment, Beta Club seems to be a good place to enhance that skill through serving your community.
How is Beta Club’s environment? Destiny Veasna stated the following, “I enjoy the environment as it teaches students to give back to their community and learn leadership skills, while also boosting your college resume.”
Through Veasna and Gibson’s comments, Beta Club appears to be an enjoyable club to learn leadership skills through serving your community. The club provides crucial life lessons that students can use for the rest of their lives. “Let us Lead by Serving Others,” NationalBetaClub.
