On Saturday February 21st, 4 Manchester Lancers competed in one of the biggest tournaments of their lives. The following lancers are: Benaiah Jackson – Top 10 Finish (165 weight class), Owen James – Top 12 Finish (190 weight class), Sherman Clark – Top 15 Finish (215+ weight class), Luis Sandoval – Top 16 Finish (120 weight class). After a long tough season that was defined by hard weight cuts and endless drills, the hard work finally paid off. Each athlete brought a unique style to the mat this season but they were all united by the same thing, Lancer Pride. They packed their singlets and headgear for the trip to Virginia Beach Sportsplex with all the support in the world from their teammates and coaches that pushed them to this level.
For these 4 students the tournament represented more than just a chance at a medal or trophy, but the fact that all the hard work and discipline over the years has paid off. They were aware that the mat’s competition was gonna be better than what they were used to but they were ready to take that challenge head on. They know that their physical and mental toughness will keep them in the match. But the goal was clear, leave everything they have left on the mat and represent the Manchester Lancers.
