NEHS or National English Honors society is a high school honor society for students with talents in English and related fields. If you’re a student who has ever wondered about applying to NHES or asking a teacher to recommend you for it, I would highly recommend it for a multitude of reasons. One reason would be: that students in NEHS can receive up to 80,000 dollars annually in scholarships from various programs. Second, our lovely English teacher Ms.Perrotte runs NEHS.
When interviewing Ms.Perrotte about NEHS, I found out that we have 156 members in NEHS at Manchester. “I have served as a co-sponsor for about 5 years, but this is my first year as head advisor, and it has been eye-opening. I will admit, becoming head advisor has made me reflect on how much I wish I had understood so I could have supported the role more fully when I was co-sponsoring. The workload, record-keeping, the amount of meetings are intense, and the commitment truly spans the entire year with very little downtime. Despite that, I believe in this group and its purpose,” Perrotte said. It sounds like running this club is a lot of hard work, but it’s nothing that Ms.Perrotte can’t handle to help make sure all of our English students have an opportunity to be recognized for their excellence.
NEHS was founded in 2005 by Sigma Tau Delta to recognize students in excellence in literature and writing. This impactful association has over 85,000 members world wide. NEHS advocates for high- achieving students who are advanced in English, majoring in literature and writing. At MHS, we have 156 members in NEHS and we are hoping to grow the club even more next year! If you are interested in joining NEHS, talk to your English teacher about giving you a recommendation. Next time you see her, give a big thank you to Ms.Perrotte for all of the work that she does to run NEHS. We couldn’t do it without her!
