The movie Iron Lung came out January 30th, 2026. The movie is based off of the 2022 horror game Iron Lung. It was directed by Mark Fischbach, or more commonly known as the youtuber Markiplier.
Iron Lung is about a criminal named Simon who is tasked with going into a makeshift submarine on a moon filled with blood to find remaining resources after something called “The Quiet Rapture” causes all stars and planets to disappear. It focuses on intense claustrophobia, body horror, psychological tension, and the pilot’s isolation.
The movie was entirely self-funded by Markiplier, with no big company involved. It made over $17 million on its opening weekend across 3,015 theaters. The budget for the movie was only around 3 million dollars, which makes this a big success for Markiplier. Iron Lung has grossed $48.5 million worldwide as of mid-February 2026, which breaks records for indie films. Markiplier relied on his own popularity and fanbase to market the movie, as he didn’t have any marketing budget.
Iron Lung was temporarily removed from some of the box office charts shortly after it came out, leading to fans suspecting that Hollywood was trying to suppress an independent success before later returning. Iron Lung also broke the world record for the amount of fake blood used in a movie, the record being 70,000 gallons before Iron Lung used 80,000 gallons. Iron Lung has mostly positive reviews, with many fans saying that it has an amazing storyline and perfect worldbuilding.
