Being a highschool student means being self reliant and switching from a guided schedule to independent study. Having effective time management is important and things become less about working harder, but more about protecting your energy. Many students always fall into the trap of doing a lot of minor tasks while leaving out the most significant projects. It is easy to feel productive when you cross off five or six easy, unimportant tasks off your list while the massive ones remain untouched. However, it is important to utilize a priority matrix to be able to categorize responsibilities by their importance and urgency. You should always aim to tackle your big task and the complex ones during your peak brain hours. By scheduling high-effort tasks when your mental battery is fully charged, you leave the low effort tasks like checking emails and organizing your belongings for the evening time when your battery naturally goes down.
Finally, successful time management needs to be based on the reality of humanity. Every time you pause to check a notification, your brain loses momentum, making it harder to return to a stable flow state. All students should take an approach where they place phones in another room during study blocks. It is efficient because it serves as a way to limit distractions. Realistically, assignments will take 20% longer than anticipated due to mental blocks and maybe even technical glitches. It is important to be mindful of this and plan for these delays rather than trying to ignore them. Being a student will become far less stressful when you learn your limits, schedule, and habits.
