I recently interviewed 18-year-old Zion Harris, who plays football for Manchester High. When we talked about his personality, he said he loves that he is a confident person who is very excited about both his classes and his sports.
Zion’s interest in football began when he was only 8 years old. Instead of playing at home, he went to a professional game and saw the action in person. The excitement of the fans and the big plays made him want to join a team right away. Zion also told me that his favorite player is Lawrence Taylor. When asked why him, Zion responded, ´´Because he was a dog and played for my favorite team.´´
Zion has big dreams for what comes next. He really wants to go to the University of Virginia to play football. He picked this school because he knows they care about grades and sports equally. Zion has already been on many visits to the UVA football games and shares with me that he loves the environment.
When he finishes his time at UVA, Zion plans to head west to Los Angeles, California. He is drawn to the city’s lively atmosphere and the fast-paced lifestyle it offers. By staying true to his goals and keeping a positive attitude, Zion is making sure he is ready for whatever comes next, whether he is in the classroom or under the stadium lights.
