As high school students, protecting your mental health is important. It is easy to always be on go and grind 24/7 because that is what is normalized. However, your hustle needs a recharge button that comes along with it. A reset is something that is needed for a high performance to be displayed. Every student has potential and the capability to be their best selves. Sometimes, people can get too caught up on operating like a machine everyday and being what everyone else needs them to be. It is good to be reliable, except putting yourself first and your own needs is more important. Highschoolers sometimes try to please others while pretending to have a high social battery, but deep down they are drained. Always remember you cannot pour from an empty cup.
Scheduling time to do nothing is important or eventually your body will crash for itself. Life can become overwhelming when schoolwork, responsibilities, and high expectations begin to pile up. When you take a break, it gives your mind time to breathe and rest. You will notice your thoughts will start to slow down, stress will be released and the tense feeling you have will go away. A short pause can make a huge difference in how someone thinks and feels.
Choosing to reset and take a break does not mean you’re giving up or failing, it simply means you need time to recharge to come back stronger. Regaining motivation and having a refocused mind is refreshing for people who are always worried. Whether it is taking a walk, listening to your favorite artist, or simply just taking a nap; these things are all important for mental health.
Emotional balance will help you to handle your problems in a positive way instead of off impulse. When we are overwhelmed, we tend to react based on the emotions we feel in the moment, or the emotions that were built over time. However, if we take the time to regain clarity and know when we simply just need to walk away to relax, things will flow naturally.
Overall, every high school student should be mindful of their limits. If mental health problems are ignored, it will begin to affect grades, behavior, relationships, and happiness. Everyone deserves to be in a peace of mind and filled with joy. That is why it is important to take care of our mental health just as much as our physical health. Once you start to take care of your mind, growing as a student and a successful adult doesn’t seem so bad.
