Oppenheimer, released on July 21, 2023, is a drama film inspired by the creation of the first atomic bomb and was directed by legendary filmmaker Christopher Nolan.
The movie is about Robert J. Oppenheimer and the creation of the very first atomic bomb. It takes place in New Mexico during October towards the end of World War II. The runtime approximates to three hours of action and suspense. The movie scored a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 8.8/10 on IMDb.
I loved the movie. I think bringing something like this to the big screen is important because it helps educate people on historically significant events like the creation of the atomic bomb in a more visual, immersive way. To make it more real and even more immersive, Christopher Nolan used real explosives as opposed to CGI as many modern filmmakers would.
I think this is definitely one of the best movies of the year and one of Christopher Nolan’s best. It made me feel emotional at times with the soundtrack, scenery, and the tension which makes your body explode with adrenaline.
While I watched the movie, my confusion and curiosity would contribute to my feeling of suspense. Oppenheimer was definitely a “slow burn” of a movie since most of it is based on building up to the main scene. After the atomic bomb exploded, I expected the movie to end. However, the movie continued to build on the events after the bomb. The movie dove into how Oppenheimer was accused to be a Russian spy, until the rather grim ending. I definitely would recommend this movie.
