Basketball season comes to bittersweet end

After conditioning for months for a season many were uncertain would come, Manchester’s Varsity Basketball team got their time on the court. While several wins contributed to an overall strong season with a record of 10-2, they fell just short in the final match of their season after losing the Feb 10 home conference tournament game against Bird High School by a score of 55-53.

The season was bittersweet to some. The Covid-19 pandemic limited audience attendance at the games, requiring most students to watch the games via YouTube stream. However, the season had many highlights:

  • Boys Varsity Basketball defeated Midlothian 60-38 on 1/28. In that game, Dante Kearse led all scorers with 19 pts and Noah Richardson-Keys chipped in 11. Darren Jackson had a career high 7 blocks for the Lancers.
  • Varsity Girls Basketball defeated James River 42-35 on 1/25.
  • Boys Varsity Basketball defeated Cosby 53 – 50 on 1/23. In that game, Jaiden Johnson led the way with 16, Noah Richardson-Keys had 13, and Dante Kearse chipped in 10.
  • JV Boys Basketball defeated Cosby 58-40 on 1/23.
  • Boys Varsity Basketball defeated Powhattan 80-45 on 1/22, which was Senior night. In that game, Maddox Beekman led all scorers with 20 pts, including 6 three pointers. Noah Richardson-Keys added 14 and Jeremiah Hutton had 13.
