Covid-19 is changing the way holidays are celebrated

Covid-19 has ruined many holidays, and Thanksgiving was just another. Thanksgiving is a holiday to be celebrated with family and friends, but of course, Covid-19 made it hard to do. Regular Thanksgiving traditions should be eating with your family; there is usually a bunch of food and fun. Thanksgiving is a time where people can visit their long-distance families, but it was pretty difficult to keep up with regular traditions this year. The impact Covid-19 had on Thanksgiving shows that winter holiday traditions are bound to change this year as well.

Covid-19 is changing a lot of things about the holiday season this year. The governor has placed a new limit of only 25 people in public and private gatherings. Since there is a limit, big families won’t be able to legally gather for the remainder of the year, and if anyone breaks the Virginia 25 limit policy, they can get a fine up to $2,500 and/or up to a year in jail. Another problem will be social distancing and masks. Most people wear a mask every wear they go. The holidays won’t be an excuse to take it off for some. Wearing a mask with family is very important and safe, but it just won’t be the same. Family members will have to stay six feet apart from others. If a person celebrates a holiday with a feast, and they have a smaller house, it will be difficult for them to be comfortable enough to eat and be cautious. Thanksgiving, or any holiday, shouldn’t be celebrated like this. It’s supposed to be about seeing each other and reuniting with one another. However, this is the sad nature of the situation.

Most people have families who live in a different town or state. This will be another change made to the holiday season. Some people might not want to get on a plane or be around others, even if it’s their own family. This can make it so others can’t see their loved ones. Planes also have very strict rules, so it can make it harder for the people who are away from their families.

The food will be another issue with Covid-19. Usually, different people make meals and they bring it to one house to make a big feast. This year, it could look different. Eating foods others have made can make cases go up fast. People need to be very careful with how they make and eat the food this year.

With Thanksgiving over, there will be many more cases of Covid-19 infection. After every holiday or big event happens, cases always go up. Many people will follow all the health rules, but a lot of people won’t. It’s important to remember that while the holiday season must look very different this year, it can still be fun while celebrated responsibly.
