Using games to stay socially connected

Whether or not you are currently in school, you are probably stuck at home a lot more due to this global pandemic. My guess is that you want to be with friends, because guess what, I’m sick of my family too. The best way to get in touch with your friends is through gaming. Whether you play console, PC, or even mobile, you can always get into a game with friends.

The coronavirus has brought the world to its knees, and we are all told to stay at home when possible to both protect ourselves and others. So, it is best to keep a positive outlook on the whole situation, and to keep your head clear. What better way to clear your mind and stay positive then to play some games with some friends? So let me explain how you can get in contact with your friends and have a fun time.

First and foremost, you need a way of contacting them. A popular way to chat for gamers is an app known as Discord, a free application that allows you to voice chat with friends. It also allows users to type messages and even share screens with each other. If that’s not your fancy, then you can use other applications that allow voice chat, such as: Facebook Messenger, Zoom, Google Meet, etc.

Next on the list is a game that you and your comrades can play. Some of the best games for playing with friends include, but are not limited to Minecraft, Among Us, Roblox, and Mario Kart. Don’t forget all of the single player games out there as well. While games such as The Last of Us II, are meant for only one player, the advent of streaming games for wide audiences has opened up a world of social interactivity for these otherwise closed experiences. So if you don’t want to call up your friends or none of them are online and able to play, you can still relax with a singleplayer game and share it with others. Some of the games I had mentioned before can also be played in a single player mode.

And of course, you must understand one crucial thing with your gaming experience: it’s just a game. It’s important to understand the importance of keeping your cool, especially when playing with others. You’re trying to stay close to your friends, not push them away with negativity, right? When you become upset, you can bring an unwelcoming atmosphere, and can make others uncomfortable, and they will not want to play with you. So it’s best to just stay calm, relax, and play for fun because we all know that a game isn’t a game if you’re not having fun.
