Local movie theater remains open as rivals close

Students who are eager to see a movie during the pandemic may have some hope. While Regal Cinemas has closed all of their theaters until next year, their rival AMC theaters will remain open while exercising standard Covid-19 procedures. Tod Perry, General Manager of AMC Dine-In Midlothian 10, ensures that operations are running normally while taking precautions into account.

“We’re using social distancing and require masks in the building with both the staff and the guests.” Perry said.

The theaters won’t be as crowded as they were before the pandemic.

“We’re only at 40% or less seating,” Perry said.

Those eager to recapture the experience of seeing a major new release will have to wait longer, however.

“We don’t have any blockbusters out,” Perry said.

These restrictions aren’t deterring teenagers. When asked about the turnout of teenagers at his theater, Perry said “it’s about the same as the rest of the audience right now.”
