Show choir season officially started on January 24th, 2025 at Manchester High School. The show choirs, Capital Swing, Touch of Swing and Vocal Swing have been working hard on their shows since August 2024, with many after school rehearsals, 10 hour work days and camp weeks all throughout the year. Capital Swings show theme is Articulus, Touch of Swings is Gaga and Vocal Swings We Go Together, based off the movie “Parent Trap.”
¨My favorite part about competition season is getting to meet new people at competitions and getting to bond with my team in Touch of Swing. Everyone is really nice and is working really hard this season. They make working with them really easy.” says Anna Andrews, senior.
Capital Swing and Touch of Swing recently traveled to Ohio and West Virginia for their first 2 competitions of the season. In Ohio, Touch of Swing took home 1st place in univoice division, best set design and made it to finals, taking home 5th runner up overall. Capital Swing took home best show design, also made it to finals and took home 2nd runner up overall.

In West Virginia, both Capital Swing and Touch of Swing took home first place in their divisions, Capital Swing also making it to finals, winning 1st runner up overall. At Hanover High School, all 3 show choirs won 2nd place, Vocal Swing also took home Best Stage Crew and Capital Swing took home Best Vocals, Best Costumes and Best Band. Their last competition will be at Powhatan High School on March 21st and 22nd. Manchester hosts their own competition called The Koste Classic, named after the school’s previous principal, from March 13th-15th.
“I feel like it’s been really satisfying. This is my first year in show choir so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I feel like this was a really good first year experience because we have had so many wins over the past few weeks at competitions, so I am very happy with our results.” says Mia Renshaw, senior.
