A new Superman movie is heading to theaters on July 11, 2025. The director will be James Gunn, current CEO of DC studios and the actor playing Superman is David Corenswet.
“We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY and in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives,” James Gunn wrote on twitter on 12/8/2022 in response to fans wondering where the future of DC cinematic universe was heading.
“I believe that most people in this country, despite their ideological beliefs, their politics, are doing their best to get by and be good people – despite what it may seem like to the other side, no matter what that other side might be. This movie is about that. It’s about the basic kindness of human beings, and that it be seen as uncool and under siege (by) some of the darker voices are some of the louder voices,,, We felt like we we’re doing something good, both in terms of quality and in terms of actually that’s not a fascistic power fantasy. I’m not saying that about other hero movies in general. But it felt good to be doing something that was about a person’s kindness,” Commented Gunn in an interview with Screen Rant about the upcoming movie.
Based on his interviews Gunn has shown keen mindfulness to his curation of new projects within The DC cinematic universe. He has had experience with superhero movies/francies as he was the director of the Guardian Of The Galaxy Trilogy and The Suicide Squad movie.
“ But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback (take on Superman). I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic,” stated Corenswet in an interview with The Variety.
Corenswet is best known for his supporting roles in “The Politician” and “Hollywood”. This film would be his biggest yet with the added bonus of fulfilling his “ pie in the sky ambition”.
“Dreams save us. Dreams lift us up and transform us. And on my soul, I swear… until my dream of a world where dignity, honor and justice becomes the reality we all share — I’ll never stop fighting.”
