Manchester’s last home game of the regular season was Friday, November 8th. All of the seniors were honored during the game and walked across the field with their chosen escorts, which were family or friends. There are many seniors on the football team, so feelings could be ranging from high to low.
Senior Isaiah Brown said, “Personally, it will be an easy game. I am sad, but I’m happy because I’m graduating soon. After graduating, I will be going to Norfolk for football, engineering or graphic design.
Since seniors are leaving, it depends on who is going to keep playing in order for Manchester to keep its good label.”
The players were ready for their last home game of the regular season and excited to play as seniors for the last time, although it was bittersweet for some. They were confident in their abilities to defeat Cosby.
Senior Malik Holiday said, “We will win because we are just a better team and we want it more than them. It’s up to us if we make the game tough or not. I have mixed emotions about this being my last home game. I’m trying to cope with it the best I can. After this game, I will continue to be happy, not sad. I do not plan on going to college for football, but I plan on going to the military.”
Seniors are planning their futures, with or without football. Some want to continue playing, while others are ready to hang up their cleats and move onto something else.
Cosby took an early lead in the first quarter 7-0, which Manchester bounced back from in the second quarter leading 21-10. Manchester proceeded to hold Cosby from scoring for the rest of the game while scoring 33 more points, ending the game 54-10, advancing the team to the first round of the playoffs. Playoffs start this week with another home game against Thomas Dale.
