“Transformers One topped the domestic box office with $9.56 million. That includes $3.4 million on Thursday previews and suggests an opening weekend of just $26.3 million,” informed Scott Mendelson of Substack.
Transformers One profitability is currently in the average range for what is expected from an animated movie. With it being reported that the movie’s production cost were up to $75 million dollars it’s being projected that they would take a financial loss from this movie. However, it isn’t hopeless since the cost of the production was split 3 ways by Paramount, New Republic and Hasbro Entertainment.
“The thing that I remember seeing about the movie (1986 The Transformers: The Movie) from the very opening frame was just the epic scale it was so cool and it started off on Cybertron and in space so I wanted that same feeling for this,” stated Director Josh Cooley in an interview with Next Best Picture.
Cooley mentions how when creating the film he had prior Transformer movies in the back of his mind and used them for inspiration. Transformers has had influence on multiple generations, Hasbro adapted Takara’s Diaclone and Microman toy lines. In 1984 with the new version of these action figures we had what we all know as the Transformers. Marvel then made a comic line based on the toys later that year along with their first cartoon. The first movie that the franchise released was in 1986 and in total there are 8 Transformers movies.
“It is the 14th highest grossing film series, with a total of $5.28 billion grossed over seven films to date,” says Wikipedia.
Even if the newest installment in the franchise doesn’t dazzle the masses, the franchise has already made a lump some of money. Being in the top 20 of grossing film series, Transformers has significant monetary value.
“I have witnessed their capacity for courage, and though we are worlds apart, like us, there’s more to them than meets the eye. I am Optimus Prime, and I send this message to any surviving Autobots taking refuge among the stars. We are here. We are waiting,”- Optimus Prime
