The Spanish Immersion program at Manchester has gained a lot of interest in recent years due to its challenging, but interesting twist on a normal school day.
The Spanish Immersion program helps students learn Spanish and get to know different cultures along the way. Participants of Spanish Immersion must take subjects like Health/PE and Math in Spanish, as well as a regular Spanish language class.
Emily Jordan, a freshman, says “I really enjoy Spanish Immersion and I love all the cultural things we do.”
While graduating, these students will receive a special certificate stating that they are bilingual. Being bilingual can be very helpful for people who would like higher pay when applying for a job.
Many students love Señora Byrnes and enjoy her teaching style and they hope she continues inspiring others.
Emily Jordan says that “Señora Byrnes makes [her] day easier,” and that she can be an anti-stressor when “the work gets overwhelming.”
Spanish Immersion is not always easy; However, it is a program well suited for students who are willing to put in the time and effort. Alongside the challenge enters some fun activities. Students will go on field trips, have small festivities, and get to eat culturally diverse food together. It is a great bonding experience and a great way to make memories.
Many students that partake do not come from Spanish backgrounds. Anyone can join this program and learn Spanish if they wish to. This creates a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves and meet new people.
Ella Holland, a freshman, hopes to motivate people to learn Spanish because she thinks that Spanish will be beneficial for the later stages of someone’s life.
There are many teachers that are happy to work with the Immersion group. They come from all sorts of backgrounds and learned Spanish in different ways, whether in college or raised that way. They are always willing to teach or inform students about this wonderful chance to learn Spanish.
