The Manchester Lancers faced off against the James Madison Warhawks as they competed for the VHSL class 6A championship game at VCU’s Siegel Center on Friday, March 10th.

The Lancers started the game out slowly with a score of 6-12 to end the first quarter. Freshman Finley Weaver brought the team some much needed scoring with a couple of impressive three-pointers to bring the Lancers within two points, ending the half down 19-21, with the Warhawks leading.

The Lancers gained some momentum in the second half of the game. Mia Woolfolk had a dominant 3rd quarter and the Lancers  trailed by only 1 to end the 3rd period, with a score of 31-32.

The 4th quarter was the time to put the game away to secure the championship. It was a back and forth affair between the two teams with the fourth quarter ending in 44-44; a tie. The Lancers battled hard during overtime, but ultimately fell short of the win with a final score of 46-49. The Lancers were named the runner up of the 2022-2023 state championship game, capping off a very impressive 2023 season.
