On February 8th, The boys basketball team defeated James River in a thriller overtime win by a final score of 92-83.
All the pieces on the court worked together to come up with the win. The Rapids defense could not find a way to stop the Lancers in overtime as the lancers put their foot on the gas.
The team was led by Zion Richardson-Key’s 26 points. Richardson-Key had an amazing night driving to the basket and scoring at almost every opportunity that he was given. Isaiah Thomas’ lockdown defense allowed him to get fast break points, ending the night with 17 points.
On February 10th, The boys basketball team defeated L.C Bird with a score of 52-49, in a heavily fought bounce back victory after Bird gave the Lancers their first and only loss of the season.
The energy in the gym was electrifying on both sides as the bleachers were packed with people. Before the game, senior cheerleaders and players alike were recognized for their last home regular season contest of their high school careers.
Out of the gate, the Lancers went on a 7-3 run with Kameron Watts chipping in 5 points to start the game. Both teams battled on both offense and defense ending the first half in a 2 point lead after Watts’ strong finish to the basket.
The Lancers came out of half time playing wonderful defense. Down the stretch, Kevin Lucas gave the team two well needed 3 pointers. With nearly a minute left in the game, Isaiah Thomas put the team up by one after making two clutch free throws to ice the game. With 10 seconds left in the game, the Lancers inbounded the ball and threw it down court to Makai Byerson where he passed the ball to Jaiden Johnson for a game-ending layup.
The win gave Coach Karlson his 100th career win as the team is moving on to the playoffs with a final record of 21-1.
